Snake.io
If you enjoy Snake.io
Snake.io is a fast multiplayer take on the classic snake game, dropping you into an arena packed with other players. You slither around eating glowing food to grow longer, then use your size to cut off rivals and force them to crash. Every snake you take down leaves a trail of food for you to scoop up, so a single good kill can rocket you up the leaderboard. It is quick to learn, genuinely competitive against real opponents, and free to play right in the browser.

How to play
The goal is simple: eat, grow, and outlast everyone else. You steer your snake around the map gathering food bits, and the longer you get the more dangerous you become. The key offensive move is the boost, held to surge forward and swerve in front of another snake so they smack into your body. Boost burns some of the length you have built up, though, so it is a trade-off rather than something to spam. The last snake standing, or the longest one, rules the arena.
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Mouse, WASD, or arrows | Steer your snake |
| Hold left-click or space | Boost forward at the cost of length |
| Eat food | Grow longer and climb the leaderboard |
| Cut off rivals | Force enemy snakes to crash into you |
Skins and progression
Once you have the basics down, there is a skins shop to chase. New looks unlock through achievements like hitting high scores or logging in on consecutive days, so there is a reason to come back beyond just topping a single match. The skins are cosmetic, so they let you stand out in the arena without buying any kind of edge over other players. It keeps the competition fair while still giving you goals to grind toward.
Tips and tricks
Early on, when you are short, play aggressively and take risks since you have little to lose and everything to gain. Follow the crown marker to find the biggest snake on the map, either to avoid it or to hunt it. Once you grow large enough, you can coil around smaller snakes in a tightening circle to trap them with no escape. Above all, use your size to intimidate: bigger snakes control space, and forcing others to swerve around you is half the battle.
| Situation | Play |
|---|---|
| Small snake | Take risks, boost often, hunt aggressively |
| Spotting the crown | Track the largest snake to dodge or hunt it |
| Large snake | Circle and trap smaller rivals |
| Crowded area | Use your length to wall off opponents |
Who made it
Snake.io was developed by Kooapps, first arriving on Android and iOS in April 2016 before coming to the web via WebGL in September 2022. The web version ports the mobile experience over cleanly, with responsive movement and genuinely tricky online opponents rather than the questionable bots some snake games rely on. You can play it free in the browser or grab the mobile app from Google Play and the App Store to keep your runs going on the move.
Snake.io mobile app
Snake.io also has a mobile app. Keep playing here, or get it from Google Play and the App Store.
